Fees

The fees for adopting dogs and cats from Sacramento County vary according to weight and sex of the animal. Unless otherwise indicated, all fees listed include spay/neuter costs and vaccinations.  If the animal has already been spay/neutered no additional fees will be added (see chart for details). Payment may be made in cash, debit card, or Visa, MasterCard or checks.

ADOPTION - Dogs  Require Spay/Neuter
Females  $147

ADOPTION- Cats Require Spay/Neuter

Adoption includes:
- Spay or neuter services
- One (1) year license
- Microchip with registration
- Vaccinations (DHPP, Bortella, rabies for dogs and cats*, FVRCP)

*Puppies and kittens do not receive rabies vaccines or licenses until they reach four months of age. The rabies vouchers will be given at the time of adoption to be redeemed when the animal reaches four months old. The voucher is only good at the low cost rabies clinics held first Wednesday of each month at the Shelter. The license will be given at the time voucher is redeemed.

Heartworm test $20
Felv/Fiv Test $20
Parvo Test $20
Panleukopenia test $20

Rabbits:

Female/Male $45
optional microchip $65

Guinea Pigs, Mice, Rats

Female/Male $5

Exotics - Half the market value

Livestock - Per special arrangements

Impound Fees:

1st Impound $40
2nd Impound $80 - Plus mandatory Spay/Neuter (surgery fees vary by sex of animal)
3rd impound $160

Boarding Fees:

Regular board $10 per day
Quarantine board $15 per day
Livestock board $25

License Fees - $15 per year for altered animals over four months of age who will live in Sacramento County. $150 per year for unaltered animals. (View Licensing Page)

Rabies Vaccination during redemption - $10.
The rabies vaccine cost is included within the total adoption fees.

Low Cost Rabies Shots: $5 during the Wednesday night Rabies Clinics.  Cash Only

Owned Animal Disposal:
Per animal: $50
Livestock: Refer to Kofran Disposal Company

Surrendering Your Animal for Euthanasia:

Per animal $50
Per litter (mother with puppies or kittens under 4 months $65
Mice, hamsters, guinea pigs $10
Livestock Accepted at Director's discretion

Owner Request Euthanasia:

Per animal $50
Per Bite Animal $50 (Euthanasia) + $55 (Rabies Specimen and testing) = $105

Surrendering a Stray - No Charge

Redeeming (Picking Up) Your Animal -if impounded or picked-up as a stray - $40 Impound Fee plus applicable board and care charges. If your animal was not licensed or vaccinated, these services will be performed before the animal is released and applicable fees charged.

Citations for not having a license: The minimum fee to clear the citation and purchase a license is $25.
