SNIP - Spay/Neuter Incentive Program

SNIP is a voucher program for cats and dogs of low-income residents in Sacramento County excluding the cities of Elk Grove, Rancho Cordova and Sacramento, as they provide their own animal services.

Qualified residents are given vouchers for surgery to use a participating veterinarians. Proof of low income such as EBT card, SSI, WIC, or even income tax statements is required, along with a $20 co-pay. 

The SNIP package includes:

  • vaccinations 
  • micro-chipping
  • animal license
  • voucher to be used for surgery with one of the participating veterinarians. 
  • Please bring your animal to the shelter with you when applying for the SNIP program.  Residents must schedule their surgery within 30 days of receipt of the voucher.  Up to two (2) animals per household are eligible. 

Call (916) 368-7387 (choose option 5)  or drop by the shelter during open hours. Note: Come by anytime, however the shortest wait times are on Wednesday or Thursday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.  Tuesdays are very busy and you may experience longer wait times. 

(SNIP's cannot be done on Fridays and Saturdays unless the animal has a current rabies vaccination that does not expire in less than 6 months.)   View SNIP Flyer (PDF) Folleto SNIP en espaņol (PDF)
