Granite's Story
My husband and I love to
adopt older cats or feral cats; they are wonderful
companions and have so much love to offer. Female cats,
even older ones, seem to get adopted more quickly, so we
particularly love to bring home OMCs…”Old Man Cats”.
We were recently mourning the loss of our beloved cat
Finnegan to cancer. We had adopted him at age 12, only 10
months before. He had been at a local shelter for four
months when we found him. Despite the fact that he was very
loving and absolutely beautiful, he was always passed by
because of his age. To avoid having another cat sit in a
shelter that long, we started searching right away for
another cat to join the family.
“Granite”, age 8, was listed on petfinders.com; his eyes
looked so sad in the shelter photo that we had to meet him
right away.
A few days later we brought
Granite to our house, where he climbed out of the carrier
and announced he was home. He was immediately friendly and
cuddly with us and our other cats. I have never seen a cat
adapt so quickly to a new situation, or to get along with
new “siblings” so easily. We all fell under the spell of
his beauty, sense of humor and marvelous personality.
He has only been home for two weeks, but it is hard to
imagine our lives without Granite. He has graciously agreed
to let us be his forever parents, and we feel very lucky to
have him in our lives. Old cats ROCK!
