Pele’s Story

Photograph of two cats named Pele and Victoria cuddling on a chair.

We adopted Pele in April of 2002. ( Neffe had gone to kitty heaven the month before). We looked every where; the SPCA in both Sacramento and Placer counties, the Sacramento City shelter, and the Sacramento County Shelter. I found her on my second visit to the County Shelter. She was about a year old, maybe a little younger. I wanted an older cat but not to much over a year old. I also wanted to give a homeless kitty a home.

I wanted an older cat because our other cat Tica (from the SPCA) was about a year old. This cat was supposed to be a buddy for Tica. (see photo) It worked!  I picked Pele out because she purred and cuddled when I picked her up. She was also already spayed. She wanted a home so badly. She wouldn't let the worker at the Shelter take her away from me when she needed to get a shot before I could take her home. I later found out she had been adopted before and returned.

After getting Pele home, she hasn't sat in my lap since she met the love of her life, Jim, my husband. She is Tica's and Jim's buddy. Jim never had a kitty that loved him the most and he adores Pele. She has found a happy home. Her favorite games involve string, sticks and feather toys. She likes to jump into the air chasing feather on a string and stick toys. She's a great jumper!

We do not let either of our kitties go outside for their safety.

Pele is named after the Hawaiian Fire goddess.
